3 Tips to Prepare for Your In-Home Session
In-home sessions have quickly become one of my favorite sessions EVER! I seriously love nothing more than capturing a family in the comfort of their own space. I find that each family is able to relax and just enjoy being together when they are in their own home.
I am even more excited to announce that once my little family hits the road for 6-months starting this June I will be offering In-Home Sessions as a part of my Travel Sessions. So I decided to put together a little list of helpful tips for the perfect In-Home Session.
Keep the cleaning to a minimum!- No, seriously. This one is a big deal for most people and although it is definitely helpful to have your house picked up a bit do not feel like it has to look like a maid just came to visit. Especially if your session is an In-Home Newborn session. I want this experience for you to be as relaxing and stress free as possible so don’t worry if there are a few things scattered about. I am happy to move things around as needed, you just sit back and enjoy time with your family.
Send Photos or video of your favorite spaces - During your consultation, I will probably asking you to send me some photos or video of the main rooms I like to photograph. Depending on your session type that usually includes the family room, master bed room, kid’s rooms or nursery, and sometimes the kitchen. Having these images/video helps me to see how the light fills the space and allows me to plan the best way to photograph your family in each room.
3. Plan for activities - Yep activities! This is one of my favorite parts of my in-home session. I want to capture your family interacting, giggling, and simply having fun together. One of the easiest ways to do that is to pick an activity that you all enjoy doing together. Some of my favorite activities include dance parties, reading books, if there is a new babe in the house then sink baths are an all time favorite, or even just cuddling on the sofa. Those moments are drenched in love and connection and I can never get enough of that.
BONUS TIP!! 4. Styling still matters- Even though I want every part of your session to be as relaxing as possible I still want to make sure you look and feel as amazing as you possibly in your photos. That is why styling for your in-home session is just as important as styling for a Sunset Session. But don’t worry, I have so many amazing tools to help you put together the perfect outfits for your session.
